There are a number of ways to cook quinoa. You can boil it, soak it, casserole with it and microwave it. I have had a number of negative comments sent to me about the idea of using microwave oven for cooking quinoa. These comments talk about the harm that microwaving quinoa does to the food. They say that it takes all the goodness out of the quinoa and makes the point eating healthy foods such as quinoa pointless.
While I do know a great deal about quinoa I am not qualified or knowledgeable to know if this is true. If you know please comment below this post.
Having said all this I much prefer the texture of quinoa that has been boiled over quinoa cooked in a microwave oven. You can see the 2 main methods on the quinoa video page. Once you have cooked it you can add it to other foods in a quinoa salad or a stir fry dish.
Microwaves cause no harm to any food. They cause heat, just like an oven or grill.
Thanks for that Ian.
I thought that was the case.
There seems to be some kind of anti microwave police on the internet who send the occasional negative comment about their use.
That may be so, however;
A) The act of heating of the food uses a sort of concentrated radiation that, in doses that are isolated is harmless, but when piled up can cause longlasting damage.
B) Microwaving tupperware allows for the plastics to release chemicals which names I am not familiar with, and these chemicals are deadly over time to the human body, and certain studies have suggested that they may cause long term nerve damage.
A) The microwave radiation will only hurt you if you stick your head in the microwave; the food does not become radioactive!
B) Quite true, though the type of plastic is important.
